Living conditions
A-day landing, Blue Beach, Leyte Island Oct 20, 1944. Combat 87 days. 2 weeks later, combat Lingayan Gulf, Subic Bay, Zig-zag Pass Bataan. The condition was fox-hole. Every night it rained so much. We were always in water. Bathe with our clothes on. Meals were terrible. No time for entertainment except for R & R. Spearheading (sic) in Mindanao was just as bad.
Most vivid memory of military experience
I could and will never forget the pitiful sight of (Immin) babies - full of maggots under arms, legs and had to bathe them and later feed them.
Missed most whilst in the military
Good Japanese food. Although - was assigned to the advanced party to Japan. The Prefecture boarded us and fed us for 2 months - was great for 28 of us.
Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?
I really think this question can not be answered by writing a few lines.
