Submit an Article

Are you interested in contributing an article to the Discover Nikkei Journal? We welcome all submissions—the only requirement is that the subject matter of the article be Nikkei related. Most of the submitted work are original and the styles range to include personal essays, academic papers, event coverage, fiction, commentary, and journalism.

We also accept previously published material as long as you are the copyright holder of the submission. Discover Nikkei does not claim ownership or copyright of any works published on our website, copyright is retained solely by the author.

Discover Nikkei is a multi-lingual website. We accept articles in English, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.

If you are interested in submitting to the Discover Nikkei Journal, please contact us first with a short description of your article. The editors reserve the right to determine the articles to be published on the Discover Nikkei website. Accepted articles may be edited if necessary.

Guidelines

Basic format

• English, Spanish, and Portuguese articles should be about 800–2,000 words. Foreign words should be italicized. For example: My Grandmother made a bento for lunch.
• Japanese articles should be between 1,000–3,000 characters
• Articles should be submitted as Microsoft Word documents.

Images

• .jpg or .gif files—72 dpi, 450 pixels wide preferred. If you do not have the capability to resize the image, send us the file and we will do it.
• Only submit images that you either own copyrights or have secured permission to use for this purpose.
• Provide a caption and/or photo credit for each image if necessary.
• Do not include images within the Word file. Send image files separately.

Author information

• Submit a short 3-5 sentence bio at the end of the article.
• Send a photo of the author as a .jpg or .gif file at 72dpi.
