Living conditions
Lived after basic training in Tokyo, Japan. Lived in rooms in apartment-like buildings. Had community showers and traveled around Japan and Korea. Since the war was over by the time I finished Basic, we really enjoyed Army life.
Most vivid memory of military experience
I was sent to Fort Snelling to increase my knowledge of Japanese. After 1 month was sent to Japan as an interpreter; but was unable to read many characters.
Missed most whilst in the military
I missed my family and friends, but made up partially by making new ones.
Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?
To be able to get along and understand strangers.
