This is a plastic Hello Kitty mask that was for sale at the Natsu Matsuri outdoor event at the Mitsuwa Marketplace in Torrance, California on July 22, 2007. Mitsuwa is a chain of Japanese markets.

Like many young Japanese Americans girls growing up in the '70s and '80s, my sister and I were very much into Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Little Twin Stars. Although I was tempted to buy one, I resisted the urge. =)
