Chief of Staff of 81st Div. was Col. Short, younger brother of Gen. Short of Pearl Harbor. Lt. Col. Paul Mueller was Col. Short's Chief of Staff, but because of his brother, Col. Short remained a colonel and eventually served under his old chief of staff, who was promoted to Maj. General Mueller.
