Half-Japanese are those who look like Japanese but also display western features. The preference modeling agencies in Tokyo have for Brazilian-nikkei models to fulfill this market is also due to the fact that, although they are foreigners, Brazilian-nikkeis are already used to living in Japan and can count on their family´s support. For agencies, it means that the risk of them getting homesick, depressed and, ultimately, “fat” is minimal. Nonetheless, the immense majority of second generation Brazilian immigrants who can´t or don´t want to make the cut wonder how they can find their way into a different reality.
