Living conditions

We slept in trucks, houses, foxholes as circumstances changed. We bathed from steel helmets or in showers during prolonged breaks. Meals were C and K Rations, 10 in l Rations and hot meals. Card-playing was most frequent form of entertainment, plus the occasional U.S.O. show.

Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?

I gained self-confidence and learned the need to work together.

The G.I. Bill made it possible for me to go to graduate school for advanced degrees in plant genetics.
