After President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, Japanese Americans residing along the west coast of the United States and in US Territories were evacuated and sent first to assembly centers, and then to concentration camps all across the nation. Most of these camps were intentionally located in desolate areas with consistently poor weather. They were called "Relocation Centers" and "Justice Department Internment Camps." There were camps in:

Manzanar, California
Tule Lake, California
Poston, Arizona
Gila, Arizona
Minidoka, Idaho
Heart Mountain, Wyoming
Granada, Colorado
Topaz, Utah
Rohwer, Arkansas
Jerome, Arkansas
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Bismark, North Dakota
Crystal City, Texas
Missoula, Montana
