Living conditions
Slept & spent most of the time in sandbag bunkers, & occassionally in fox holes or out in the open. Got to bathe maybe once a week in the rear echelon by schedule that was inconsistent. Meals were mostly C & K rations with occasional breakfast brought up from the rear echelon. For entertainment we either slept, or exchanged talking stories with buddies.
Most vivid memory of military experience
The ancient methods and life style of the Korean people. One example is the transporting of waste in cart driven by oxen called 'Honey Bucket'.
Missed most whilst in the military
Home and girls.
Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?
Personally I was lucky, and learned to appreciate my family and loved ones more than ever for what we were and had. I want not only my family and close ones, but everyone else, to know that I lost nearly 2 years of my prime lively-hood for a war or conflict (Korea) that had no victory.
Additional information
For the time I served in the service was also a blessing. I've used the GI Bill of Rights and taken advantage of it to further my education that gave me my career and retirement from a great airline company. My message to others, 'Have faith and do the best you can'.
