The Street That Dreams Are Made Of is a book that chronicles the 100 year history of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Palo Alto, CA, beginning 1909 through 2009. It was part of the church's 100th anniversary celebration. It's filled with feature stories and historic and new photography.

This excerpt covers the first 25 pages of the book, which describes the humble beginnings of the Japanese Methodist Episcopal Church that would become Aldersgate decades later. The neighborhood surrounding the JME church was as much a part of the story as the church, hence this section references the tofu man and the local Japanese grocery. Memories from Niseis Rose Kimura and Soyo Okazaki Takahashi highlight what it was like to grow up on Ramona Street.

Issei men were photographed on motorcycles and horses, trying to entice a bride to a profitable new land, while tuberculosis ended the dreams of the unfortunate. The book measures 13x11" and is 194 pages long. Contact Aldersgate at www.aldersgatepa.org. Book authored by Brad Shirakawa at www.shiragraphy.com
