Members of the Little Tokyo Historical Society, Koyasan Buddhist Temple and other Little Tokyo community organizations with the certificate designating the Aoyama Tree a living Historic Cultural Monument after the dedication ceremony on July 17, 2008.
The tree, a Moreton Bay Fig, stand at the former site of the Koyasan Buddhist Temple, and is named for that mission's founder, Rev. Shutai Aoyama. It was planted in 1920.
