@cstenganCarla Tengan é curadora associada do Museu Nacional Japonês Americano. Ela escreveu este artigo enquanto pesquisava sua dissertação, “Cultivando comunidades: jardineiros nipo-americanos no sul da Califórnia, 1910-1980”, que concluiu em 2006. Ela também atuou como acadêmica de humanidades e na equipe do projeto Paisagismo da América: além dos japoneses Jardim , atualmente em exposição no Museu Nacional até 21 de outubro de 2007.
