Here is the plaque that explains this garden's history.

As was common with many Japanese-style gardens constructed before the 1940's, this one was vandalized and summarily abandoned with the outbreak of World War II.

In 1995, the sixth grade students discovered the history of the plot of land that was buried in mud and decided to reconstruct it.
With the help of Lew Watanabe, a Japanese-American gardener with his own landscaping company, the sixth grade class restored this garden.
