In Aberdeen, Maryland; Schofield, Hawaii; Tokyo Ordnance Depot, Japan - living conditions were ordinary - barracks, hot showers, hot meals and places to go.
Korea - lived in tents, make shift showers - hot water and once in awhile, hot meals.
Entertainment - movies, played cards - nowhere else to go except R & R.

Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?

The Korean War ended just before I got to the Far East, so I've not experienced any combat. But Japan and Korea were still in a pitiful state - recuperating.
