Black and white silent amateur films by Dave Tatsuno (1913-2006), a businessman in the San Francisco Bay area. Tatsuno's films, before 1942 and the forced exclusion of World War II, generally show family outings, sporting events, holidays, celebrations, and the family business.

This segment, from ca. 1937, shows a group on an outing in San Francisco, California; three young men and a young woman on a hilly street; two young women near a busy street, one taking photographs, are joined by a young man in a tie and white sweater; Shojiro Tatsuno, sitting in the dunes at a beach; Dave Tatsuno and two young men work on a car parked at the corner of Post and Buchanan (the Tatsunos' store, Nichibei Bussan, is visible behind); the group walking along a road, the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance; Dave Tatsuno, holding his 8mm Bell and Howell movie camera, shakes a young woman's hand (01:21).

Tatsuno's notes on this clip: "Personalities: Joe Omachi, Harry Fujita, Art Morimitsu, Michiyo Teramoto, Chi, Dad, Henry Tani, Sada Onoye".

Credits: Dave Tatsuno Collection, Gift of Dave Tatsuno, in Memory of Walter Honderick, Japanese American National Museum (91.74). Preserved and made accessible in part by a grant from the National Film Preservation Foundation.
