This photo was taken on August 21, 1977 at the Nisei Week Parade in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, California. It's of Mitsui Bank's parade float featuring what looks like visiting queens and Moomin characters. They're turning the corner from Central Avenue onto First Street. Back then, the parade used to begin on First Street, so this must have been right at the beginning. The parade route is now reversed so that it ends at 1st & Central.
Moomin used to be a popular children's character back n the '70s. Although originally published in Swedish, it was very popular in Japan. There was even a anime series in Japanese. Read about Moomin on Wikipedia.
