O Rio Grande marca a fronteira entre os estados de São Paulo e Minas Gerais. Parte dos pioneiros do Kasato Maru mudaram-se para a Fazenda União, na margem paulista do Rio Grande em 1912, no ano seguinte um grupo de 50 famílias de imigrantes atravessa o rio e inicia plantação de arroz em território Mineiro.
