Those who claim there's nothing to do in Little Tokyo have obviously never been to Tuesday Night Cafe, a summer concert series at the Union Center for the Arts in Los Angeles that features music, poetry, spoken word, dance, hip hop, visual art and short films. There is also an "Open Mic" segment where emerging artists and audience members can share their work.
The July 1, 2008, concert was produced in collaboration with Filipino Americans for Immigration Reform and organized around the theme of immigration. Featured were MC Franz Cipher, Jose "Flipchild" Saenz, Elaine Dololas, Visual Communication's Armed With A Camera Fellowship, 18 Might Mountain Warriors, and Albert Chiang.
Tueday Night Cafes are held on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from April to October. Visit www.tnkat.org for more information about the show schedule and getting involved.
