J-League around the 1920's.

A Nisei J-League team picture. The purpose of J-Leagues and the role of the Japanese community was clearly defined for the Nisei.

"Playing sports to stay involved with the community is something my father and mother thought was important. If you were a Nisei, you didn’t associate with other people. You lived in a JA community and interacted with other Japanese Americans. My father was a real estate broker and all he dealt with was other Japanese Americans. You gas up at the JA gas station, bought jewelry from the Japanese jeweler and you played sports with JA people." -Bob Hamaguchi, former coach and member of the first LA Tigers team.
