Letting people know I am from Brazil (Japanese)

(Japanese) In fact, when I work with Japanese companies, in such an environment where nothing is related to Brazil, I feel like there might be something that only I don’t understand or I’m not aware of. Since I don’t want to be in such situations, when I meet people for the first time, especially when there is no chance to bring up “Brazil,” I try to tell them I’m from Brazil.

Well, under such circumstances, uh, how should I say this, it’s not like I want to declare my identity as Brazilian or Nikkei, but rather I don’t want to be rude to others without knowing that I’m being rude, so if they know that I’m from Brazil, well, I’m hoping that they might be a bit tolerant, so I try to tell them a bit about where I come from.

Nasceu em janeiro de 1979 em São Paulo. Sansei, cujos avós são originários de Kumamoto, cresceu no Jardim Monte Kemel, bairro perto da Liberdade onde há muitos nikkeis. Em 1989, imigrou para o Japão, onde já morava seu pai decasségui e passou a viver em Oizum-machi. No começo, a língua era uma barreira, mas à medida que avançava no estudo do japonês, foi fazendo muitos amigos e, hoje, colabora no desenvolvimento da comunidade nipo-brasileira através da língua japonesa e seu trabalho como designer gráfico. Em 2009 tornou-se independente e abriu seu escritório de design; publica um jornal local com informações sobre Oizumi-machi. Está envidando esforços para concretizar seu sonho que é fazer de Oizumi-machi “a terra dos brasileiros”. (Agosto de 2017)
