If you look at George Hoshida's painting, Kilauea Military Detention Camp, you will see a center street, between a mess hall on the left and a barrack on the right. To the right of the barrack, there is another, smaller barrack. This is a picture of that smaller barrack, in 2007. You can see Mount Kilauea in the background. The volcano was the focal point of George's painting.
Susan Turner Purvis recently visited the Kilauea Military Camp in Hawai'i, and sent this picture, along with a detailed description, back to the Japanese American National Museum. To see a Nikkei Album collection on George Hoshida, please see the George Hoshida collection.
