Directed by Kenji Mizugochi, 1952. Once again, a heroine (Kinuyo Tanaka) turns forlonrly to prostitution in a Mizugochi film--but the poise and emotional wallop of this entry, one of the director's best, make it a keeper. Kurosawa regular Toshiro Mifune appears in a small role as a samurai.
