"Dan is working to protect Hawai‘i’s natural environment."

The back of the endorsement card:

In the last decade, Senator Inouye has helped secure more than $42 million for permanent protection of more than 120,000 acres of forests, coastlines, open spaces and cultural sites, including Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island, Kealia Wildlife Refuge on Maui, Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge on Kaua‘i, and the largest natural coastal wetland and dune ecosystem on O‘ahu at the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge.

More than $40 million has been provided to protect Hawai‘i’s environment, agriculture and visitor industries. Nearly $60 million to protect Hawaiian sea turtles and more than $10 million for Hawaiian monk seals. And $84.5 million to better manage Hawai‘i’s fisheries.

$20.9 million has supported research and management activities among state and federal governments, and the University of Hawai‘i to conserve coral reef ecosystems. And $24.5 million has allowed Hawai‘i to be at the forefront of the response to climate change, including carbon dioxide observations at Mauna Loa Observatory.

We are all fortunate to have such an advocate for our environment as Dan Inouye.
