DESCRIPTION:Join us this summer as the Japanese Friendship Garden and Buddh
 ist Temple of San Diego host the annual Obon Festival! We are proud to con
 tinue the tradition of celebrating the circle of life together\, as done e
 ach summer in Japan for generations\, and welcome everyone to join our cel
 ebration!\n\nFor two days\, you will be able enjoy a variety of merchants\
 , engage in family friendly activities\, treat yourselves to Japanese fest
 ival foods\, a beer garden\, a tea &amp\; dessert garden\, and experience 
 cultural performances throughout each day!\nEach festival day will aslo be
  highlighted with traditional Obon practices. On August 4th\,you'll be abl
 e to make your own toro nagashi to either take home or send down the strea
 m at the Japanese Friendship Garden. Lantern floating is scheduled to begi
 n at 7:00 PM at the lower garden. On August 5th\, the festival extends out
  to the Organ Pavilion in the evening where everyone will be invited to pa
 rticipate in the Bon Odori dance. The Organ Pavilion will be decorated wit
 h paper lanterns\, Japanese folk tunes and taiko will fill the air\, and d
 ance leaders in traditional kimono will guide participants into a large da
 nce circle!\n\nThe mission of the Japanese Friendship Garden Society of Sa
 n Diego is to educate\, engage\, and inspire present and future generation
 s of diverse backgrounds about Japanese culture and community legacy.&nbsp
 \;The Japanese Friendship Garden is an expression of friendship between Sa
 n Diego and its sister city\, Yokohama. It illustrates two cultures and cr
 eates an immersive experience into Japanese culture. The Garden&rsquo\;s d
 esign is based on centuries-old Japanese techniques adapted to San Diego&r
 squo\;s climate and florae and seeks to foster a relationship between huma
 ns and nature\, providing a respite attuned to Japanese simplicity\, seren
