DESCRIPTION:Rodeo Roundup\, a presentation by the Japanese American Museum 
 of San Jose\n (JAMsj) will be featured at the Day of Remembrance on Sunday
 \, February 26\, 1:30 pm at the Steinbeck Institute of Art and Culture (di
 fferent venue from the Steinbeck National Museum)\, 940 N. Main Street\, S
 alinas\, CA. The host organization\, the Gilroy Chapter of the Japanese Am
 erican Citizens League promises a meaningful learning experience about a g
 rim chapter in U.S. History.\n Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor\, Exe
 cutive Order 9066 mandated the evacuation of Japanese and Japanese America
 ns from the West Coast. The Salinas Rodeo Grounds was established by the g
 overnment as a &ldquo\;holding ground&rdquo\; before deportation to Poston
 \, Arizona\, one of ten War Relocation Authority detention camps.\n\n The 
 presentation will show case the following: Bilingual storyteller\, Megumi 
 will open by spinning tales to provide background information. The main ev
 ent\, a panel discussion\, will feature Sus Ikeda\, Jack Matsuoka\, Bob Ok
 a\, and Aki (Awaya) Okuno\, who will recount first hand experiences at the
  center. Facilitator\, Aggie Idemoto will encourage interaction among and 
 between panelists and the audience. And finally\, a mini-exhibit describin
 g the life and times during incarceration at the assembly center will roun
 d out the presentation.\n The program will begin at the California Histori
 cal Monument and Memorial Garden\, located next to the Salinas Rodeo Groun
 ds on the area formally known as the Salinas Community Center or Sherwood 
 Gardens\, and will then proceed to the Santa Lucia Room of the Steinbeck I
 nstitute of Arts and Culture adjacent to the monument.\n\n This annual obs
 ervance is sponsored by the five JACL chapters of the Greater\n Monterey B
 ay area: Gilroy\, Monterey Peninsula\, San Benito County\, Salinas Valley
