In 1953\, Ishimoto began photog raphing the Katsura Imperial Villa\, which was built in Kyoto in the seven teenth century for the Japanese Imperial Family. Its buildings and gardens are created in a simple yet elegant style that has had an effect on many modern architects such as Bruno Taut.
