The Empty Chair is a unique story about Japanese Americans living in Juneau, Alaska who were sent to incarceration camps during WWII, and how the community stood in quiet defiance against their unjust treatment.

Featured is JAMsj volunteer Alice Hikido whose brother John’s absence from graduation is symbolized by the empty chair.

The producer of the Empty Chair Documentary, Greg Chaney will introduce the film and the Chairperson of the Empty Chair Project, Margie Shackelford will be available to answer questions about the project. Finally, Karleen Grummett author of Quiet Defiance: Alaska’s Empty Chair Story will hold a booksigning.

Free with admission to the museum
