Mikawaya is a Japanese pastries shop that was founded in 1910 in Los Angeles' Little Tokyo. They have multiple locations. This one is in the Japanese Village Plaza between 1st and 2nd Streets near the fountain area. This photo was taken on October 26, 2007. Since then, they have put up new signage.

In addition to selling manju and other assorted Japanese sweets, Mikawaya is famous for introducing mochi icream. According to their website, they began manufacturing it in June 1993. The JVP location also has shaved ice that you can get with assorted flavors or with red azuki beans. In an effort to diversity and modernize, they have also added gelato to their offerings.

Their website, mikawayausa.com, has some interesting information about the history of the company.
