Letter to Clara Breed from Katherine Tasaki, Arcadia, California, May 4, 1942

Katherine was 10 years old when she was relocated, and her letters to Miss Breed were usually full of hope and humor. From her letters, we know she enjoyed writing to pen pals and putting on plays.

May 4, 1942/Dear Miss Breed,/We have a libory now. But they just have magizines like Colliers, life, Radio Screen, and a few old-fashioned books. I think the best magizine is the Geographic magizine. I am reading Robinson Crusoe right now. I think it is very nice. Each person is allowed 4 books. I have 3 look magizines. The only thing I like about the are the quistions. (photoquiz) I always bring home at least 1 magizine because my mother likes to read them. Yesterday we took a walk around the race track, and it was very pretty. On one side, there are lost of pretty wild flowers. Day before yesterday I went after lunch to practice on the piano, but I left all my books in San Diego, so I couldn't play very goo. And I haven't played for a long time. Lots of new people have arrived in the last few days. Yesterday and today it has been very hot. Yesterday was so hot, I thought I was on fire. Today it isnt so hot. yesterday I changed my clothes 3 times./ Say "Hello" to everybody for me./ Sincerely,/ Katherine Tasaki
