ローン・スプリーは 1993 年から日本に住んでおり、そのほとんどの年月を宮城県仙台市で過ごしました。結婚して子供がおり、高等教育機関の契約講師として教えています。趣味は執筆、歴史、政治、社会学、写真、サイクリングです。非常にありがたいことに、藤田 / スプリー一家は東北地方太平洋沖地震で家屋に大きな被害を受けることなく、また大切な人を失うことなく生き延びました。
