DESCRIPTION:The Japanese American community has not always broadly welcomed
  gay\, transgender\, and queer Nikkei people. It took courage for LGBTQ+ N
 ikkei to live openly and with integrity in decades past.\n\nHear from four
  LGBTQ+ Japanese Americans who are forerunners of making Nikkei communitie
 s more accepting: <strong>Melvin Fujikawa</strong>\, <strong>Gary Hayashi<
 /strong>\, <strong>Bill Tashima</strong>\, and <strong>Mia Yamamoto</stron
 g>. They will be in conversation with moderator <strong>Aya Tasaki</strong
 >.\n\nThis virtual discussion will also include <strong>Barney Cheng</stro
 ng>\, the award-winning filmmaker who directed &ldquo\;Okaeri Voices: An O
 ral History Project\,&rdquo\; a series of short Okaeri-produced documentar
 ies about each of these figures that will be available for streaming durin
 g Visual Communications&rsquo\; upcoming Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Fe
