Regarded as highly skilled berry gr owers\, the Issei&mdash\;first-generation Japanese immigrants&mdash\;were instrumental in the development of strawberry farming in the region. Nakan e interviewed those still living in the area in the early 1980s and\, in N othing Left in My Hands\, used their own words to narrate their progress i n America\, from their lives as farmers to the trying periods of anti-immi grant legislation and banishment to internment camps during World War II\, and finally to the resumption of their lives after the war."\n\nThe book club is always open to new members. Selections are chosen collaboratively at the end of each meeting and align with the JAMsj mission: the celebrati on of Japanese American art\, history\, and culture. Books may be purchase d at the JAMsj museum store.\n\nIf you have questions\, please contact Agg ie Idemoto at (408) 268-4440 or <a href=""><span sty le="color: #0066cc\;"></a>.
