The Japan Society offers a course that teaches how to integrate a multidisciplinary approach to peace education into your teaching. With a focus on conflict management and peace-building efforts between Japan and the wider world (including the U.S. and East Asia), this course emphasizes using primary sources, informational texts and art to facilitate literacy experiences and the effective incorporation of the Common Core standards.

Topics include peace movements that have grown out of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the story of Sadako and the 1,000 paper cranes, Pearl Harbor, Japan’s Constitution, Japan’s role in the international community, and 9/11 from a global perspective.

Class runs 9 AM–4 PM on the following days:
Saturday, March 9
Sunday, March 10
Sunday, April 7
Saturday, April 20
Sunday, April 21

Registration opens Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Early registration available for those who do not wish to receive 3P credit. For more information, email jseducation@japansociety.org or call (212) 715-1275.
