Información

Athena Mari Asklipiadis, Japanese, Greek, Armenian, Italian, and Egyptian, was born and raised in the South Los Angeles, California area of Crenshaw. She is a graduate of Pepperdine University and an alumni member of Kappa Alpha Theta's Zeta Phi Chapter.

During and after college, Asklipiadis worked in broadcasting for Malibu's Newswaves 26 and KWVS as well as CBS Radio and Clear Channel Radio. She began her work in the multiethnic community working with such sites as Eurasian Nation, Addicted to Race and We Are Hapa.

In 2008, Athena recognized the need for multiethnic donors in the national bone marrow regisry and began as a volunteer with A3M, Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches. In 2009, she started Mixed Marrow as an outreach through A3M and Be The Match, the national registry.

Mixed Marrow serves to not only educate the public about the need for multiethnic marrow and cord blood, but also register people at bone marrow drives across the country. Loving Day, the Mixed Roots Film & Literary Festival, and Kip Fulbeck exhibits are among some of events where Mixed Marrow has held drives.

Athena currently operates Mixed Marrow and has recently started working on documentary film, Mixed Match with filmmaker Jeff Chiba Stearns (One Big Hapa Family).
