Reverend David Matsumoto founded Stockton Bukkyo Taiko in 1990 at the Buddhist Church of Stockton. Rev. Dave and Mas Ishihara, inspired by the philosophy of the buddhist "Kinnara" Taiko movement, opened Stockton Bukkyo Taiko to all people who were interested in playing taiko.
