In the summer of 2009, the Discover Nikkei team worked with other Japanese American National Museum staff, interns, and volunteers to make seven large fukinagashi decorations for the 1st Annual Los Angeles Tanabata Festival.

These wonderfully decorated strips of paper each have a distinct design and were imported from Japan. Three of these strips were glued together to measure about 3 meters long in total and used as streamers for the bottom part of the fukinagashi.
