Watch Watch Licensing

Black and white silent amateur films by Dave Tatsuno (1913-2006), a businessman in the San Francisco Bay area. Tatsuno's films, before 1942 and the forced exclusion of World War II, generally show family outings, sporting events, holidays, celebrations, and the family business.

This segment, from the late 1930s, shows a 4th of July outing to the Monterey Peninsula; the Lone Cypress at Pebble Beach; Alice Okada Tatsuno, Shojiro Tatsuno, Masateru ("Tut") Tatsuno, unidentified friends, and the family dog on a beach picnic at Carmel; friends wade in the ocean at Carmel Point, with Point Lobos in the distance; Shojiro Tatsuno asleep; the dog, begging; Alice Okada; Dave Tatsuno; members of the party climbing rocks at Carmel Point (00:52).
