Watch Watch Licensing

Black and white silent amateur films by Dave Tatsuno (1913-2006), a businessman in the San Francisco Bay area. Tatsuno's earliest films, taken from August-November 1936 while he was an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley, show family, church, and school activities.

This segment (02:35) was filmed on August 28, 1936, at the campus of the University of California, Berkeley; an audience at the Greek Theater, the stage draped with an immense American flag; a group of male Japanese-American students; campus buildings; views of the campus and the Berkeley hills from Sather Tower; an unidentified young man standing under the University's carillon in the Sather Tower [dark]; Sather Tower, viewed from below; Tatsuno's friends.
