Bring the whole family to Kurtistown Jodo Mission's annual obon festival! This summer festival is a celebration of Japanese religion, culture, and ancestry through food, song, and dance. Come and experience a unique blend of Japanese, Hawaiian, and American cultures found only on the islands!

Rev. Enjo Ito rented a room of Yamagata Hotel and started missionary work in 1902. The same year, he built a temple and a Japanese school. This was the beginning of Kurtistown Jodo Mission known at that time as Olaa Bukkyo Kaido . Kurtistown Jodo Mission is located on the foot of Kilauea Volcano, looking down towards the city of Hilo.

Saturday, 8/4 - 7:00 p.m.; service before start of festival
