Celebrating the music of Sawai Tadao (1937-1997)
The last of four concerts to celebrate the music of Japanese koto master Sawai Tadao will take place on Friday, Jan. 18th, 2008 at 7:00 at Soundbridge (Benaroya Hall), Seattle. The concerts are being held in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of his death at the age of 59 in 1997. The concerts are produced by longtime friends and students of Sawai John and Elizabeth Falconer of Duo En. Sawai's works are known for being elegant, passionate, and free-spirited, and several works in the series are US debuts.

The Winter concert will feature diverse winter-themed works by Sawai, including two works for koto and shamisen, featuring guest artist Marcia Takamura on shamisen: "Tsurukame" (Auspicous Celebration) and "Ginga" (Milky Way) . Guest koto player Curt Patterson from Tokyo will also be performing Sawai's dynamic "Sanka" (Song of Praise) and Duo En will perform "Jogen no Kyoku) "Cresent Moon" for koto and shakuhachi bamboo flute. The well-known "Kagero" (Shimmering Vision) for two koto will be performed by Brian and Elizabeth Falconer.
