In the summer of 2009, the Discover Nikkei team worked with staff, interns, and volunteers of the Japanese American National Museum to make seven large fukinagashi decorations for the 1st Annual Los Angeles Tanabata Festival.

By cleverly taking two large plastic colander baskets and attaching them with screws, the base form for the kazari was created. Through a little bit of ingenuity we were able to use the flowers to make the finished product more spherical in shape.
