ポルトガル語で自由・独立を意味する「liberdade」（リベルダージ）はサンパウロの中心部に隣接した日本人街。 戦前から発展してきたこの地域は、もともと日本人移民の多くがここに暮らし、商業活動を営んできた。最近は中国人や韓国人の進出が目覚しく、東洋人街として賑わっている。
