Economist Cristina Matsumiya from Paraguay

Cristina Matsumiya was born in 1957, in the Colonia Presidente Chaves in the Department of Itapúa in Paraguay. She did her basic studies in her hometown and then entered the Faculty of Economic, Administrative and Accounting Sciences of the National University of, completing her studies in 1983 as the best graduate in Economics.

Cristina began her career in the Insurance area, as an administrative assistant at “Seguros La Rural”, of which her father was one of the owners. Such a company had partnered with the “Tokio Marine and NichidoFire Ins Co. and since then it became “La Rural de Seguros SA” which is part of the global network of subsidiary and affiliated companies of “Tokio GroupsMarine” . In 1983 Cristina traveled to Japan for an internship at Tokio Marine.

His entire life was dedicated to the venture of this insurance company, following in the footsteps of his father Don Yusaku Matsumiya. As a family business, he became its president in 2011.

Among its many responsibilities, the company has 141 employees. They carry out insurance coverage at the individual, family and business level, in risks, home protections, thefts and accidents of automobiles and machinery and also in air navigation, among others. It also has an insurance information center for the convenience and confidence of the client. Likewise, with legal advice for the guidance of the insured. The Company has seven branches in the main strategic points of the country.

From her functions as president, she mentions the importance of maintaining trust and transparency, offering quality and competitiveness, through the help of a good work team and at the same time offering training.

The company's mission was established: Solidity, reliability, professionalism and responsibility towards the people who are insured, offering peace of mind with the best economic results and customer satisfaction. Regarding the vision, it seeks to be recognized as a leader in the market for its seriousness, compliance with regulations and honor in its commitments, with quality services that satisfy customers, with quick responses to problems and achieving national coverage with strategic alliances at an international level with a professional and committed human team.

On July 28, 2012, the new building was inaugurated as the headquarters on an important avenue in the Paraguayan capital, which reflects a cutting-edge and good taste infrastructure. The presidential office located on the third floor is decorated with sobriety and refined elegance, with artistic objects that had been Cristina's inclination in her youth, but that the circumstances of her life and that of her family following the death of her brother , I place it in another area, business, which it is carrying out fully, with many achievements, dedication and discipline. And the objective has been set to further consolidate it as a company and venture into non-traditional insurance areas.

Emi Kasamatsu is a Paraguayan Nisei, researcher on Japanese immigration to Paraguay and the Americas. He has published two books on the subject and other publications, such as Discover Nikkei and INRP from the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, USA.

He has given several conferences at the JOCHI and Nanzan Universities in Japan and the UCLA in the USA and at the Pan-American Nikkei Conventions in about ten countries and at the Memorial of the Americas in Brazil, on immigration issues and the Nikkei in Latin America.

She has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master in Gender and Development from the National University of Asunción, a Post Graduate Degree in Governance and Leadership at the International Institute of Governance of Catalonia, Spain, in Research Methodology and a Diploma in Social and Solidarity Economy at REPEM.
