Roosevelt on February 19\, 1942. Executive Order 9066 authorized the military to remove and incarcerate persons of Japanese ancestry into American concentration camps. The theme for this year&rsquo \;s Day of Remembrance event is&nbsp\;<em>Democracy in Crisis: 1942 and 20 20</em>\, exploring how democracy has been tested in both the past and pre sent in the US.\n\n<strong>Dr. Satsuki Ina</strong>\, writer\, activist\, psychotherapist\, and co-founder of Tsuru for Solidarity\, will share abou t her work on the long-term impact of collective and historic trauma and o f mobilizing to protest current policies that echo and reverberate the rac ism and hate so resonant of the historical Japanese American incarceration .&nbsp\;<strong>Senator Mazie K. Hirono</strong>\, Hawai&lsquo\;i&rsquo\;s first female senator and the country&rsquo\;s first Asian American woman senator\, will deliver a video message about her experiences fighting to p reserve American democracy and representing communities whose voices are n ot often heard in Congress.\n\nAdmission to this event and the museum are both pay-what-you-wish on this day.
