Susu Attar, Dan Kwong, Tina Takemoto and Kuniharu Yoshida will publicly unveil their creative projects as part of the inaugural Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) +LAB Artist Residency Program on Saturday, July 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, 100 North Central Avenue in Little Tokyo.

These four California-based artists were selected to participate in a three-month residency in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo from May 1 to July 31, 2018. During this residency, the artists immersed themselves in the Little Tokyo community by living at the historic Daimaru Hotel on First Street North. Guided by the overarching theme of “Community Control and Self-Determination,” the artists collaborated with Little Tokyo-based non-profit organizations to promote community engagement and to explore creative place-making strategies through their artistic practice.

The public presentation will feature short films, photographic exhibits, and a staged reading of Dan Kwong’s forthcoming theatrical piece, “Tales of Little Tokyo.” Admission is free, but attendees are asked to RSVP for the event here. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
