Debra Beyer, "An Instrumental Link". Los Angeles Times ("Living Well" advertising supplement)
Profile and interview.
"In 1969, Abe set out to perpetuate this traditional Japanese music by co-founding the Kinnara Taiko Group, one of the first taiko groups to exist in the United States. With other members of the Senshin Buddhist Temple in Los Angeles, Abe sparked a movement toward regaining Japanese identity, while taking taiko to another level with live group performance, the building of drums and the mixing of traditional and contemporary styles and rhythms."
