Julio Eduardo Goya was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1953. He is a second generation Nikkei, born to first generation Japanese immigrants in Argentina. He graduated from the Buenos Aires National University of Fine Arts in 1983 and moved to Japan in 1985 where he would launch his career as an artist. In 1988, he was awarded the second Rodin Prize in Nagano, Japan. In 1998, Goya was invited to build a monument in Buenos Aires commemorating the 100th year anniversary of the Amity treaty of 1898. His artwork has exhibited in galleries all over Japan including Okinawa, in Argentina and France. He currently lives in Okinawa where he continues to sculpt and experiment with his art.
