Living conditions Manila: Slept in army tents, outside cold water showers, meals were good. Recreation, none.

G.H.Q. Tokyo: Slept in warm buildings, hot showers, meals were very good. For recreation, sight seeing with buddies. We obtained the use of a jeep on such occasions.

Most vivid memory of military experience We (G.I.'s) went up in the same elevator with General MacArthur and his staff during one of our lunch periods at the Dai-Ichi Bldg. GHQ and not a sound was uttered.
Missed most whilst in the military State-side (civilian)
Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience? War is ugly with its devastation and casualties.
