生活に苦しかったので、日本にいれば安心という両親の考えがありました。１歳半の時、姉と一緒に日本へ行きましたが、母はアメリカへ戻りました。田舎でおばさんと一緒に住んで和歌山市の日進中学で学び、14歳のときにアメリカに帰りました。
両親がこの国で生活していたので教育を続けて受けることができました。ベーカースフィールドで高校を卒業しロサンゼルスで大学を出ました。父は庭園業で一生懸命仕事をしていました。ロサンゼルスでアパートを借りる余裕がないのでおじのところに一部屋借りました。
