The following guidelines will help you use the Nikkei Album editorial tools to build and edit collections.
Main (required)
- Give your collection a name (required)
- Describe your collection (required). The description supplies the keywords that will help others to find your collection, separate from any Tags you may add.
- Specify what type of collection you're creating. If your collection doesn't fit any of the types provided, use the "other" box to describe your collection.
- Choose a display format for your collection; click the "view sample" links to preview each format. Nikkei Album automatically presents your collection in the "sequence of pages" format, unless you choose an alternate format.
- Select notifications. Check the boxes if you want Nikkei Album to send a notice to your registered e-mail address whenever someone comments on your collection, or incorporates it into a collection of their own.
- Click "submit" or one of the other editorial buttons.
Tags (optional)
- Assign tags to help you find and manage your own collections, and to help others discover your collections when they browse the Nikkei Album.
- Click the tabs to see tags that have already been used in Nikkei Album.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to format your tags correctly.
Licensing (optional)
- Nikkei Album uses the Creative Commons framework to let you set the conditions under which others can make use of the material you contribute.
- Licensing is voluntary. If you do not want others to reuse your material outside of the Nikkei Album, select the "No license" option.
Details (optional, but highly recommended)
- Leave the "Title" and "Description" fields blank if you only want to cluster a set of contributed items into a simple collection, without adding any information.
- Fill the "Title" and "Description" fields if you want to expand upon the description of the original items, or put them into a different context. This is especially useful if your collection includes material from other Nikkei Album contributors.
Sequence (optional)
- Use the "drag and drop" buttons to change the display order of items in your collection.
- Select an item to be the "signature item" for your collection. Nikkei Album automatically selects the first image added, unless you make another choice.
Publish (optional, but highly recommended)
- When a collection is unpublished:
- It does not appear in any Nikkei Album browse displays or search results; it is viewable only by the contributor, when logged in. Click the "My collections" link to see your own unpublished collections.
- Any tags assigned to the collection do not appear in the tabbed tag displays -- including your own ("My tags").
- The different display formats do not work properly.
- You can publish or unpublish a collection at any time, but unpublishing a collection means that all of the "collected items" within it will no longer be visible.
Delete (optional)
- "Delete" removes the main title and description for your collection, as well as specific titles and descriptions you have added for the collected items through the "Detail" screen.
- "Delete" does not remove any contributed items that you used to build your collection.
